A showdown occurs when a player is called after the River, and could involve anywhere from two players to the entire table, depending on how many stayed in to this point. All players still in the hand show their cards, starting with the last person to bet. At any point after this player showed his cards other players in the showdown may muck their hand, essentially conceding the pot; just think of mucking as folding. They are admitting they have been beat without having to show their cards. This strategy (mucking) helps keep the other players from learning your playing style, such as if you bet heavy on two pairs or like to chase a flush. 8

The Blinds: The blinds are mandatory bets posted by two players at the start of each hand, prior to the cards being dealt. The player directly to the left of the dealer posts the small blind, which in a Fixed Limit game is half the small stake, rounded down to the nearest dollar. In Pot Limit and No Limit games, the small blind is equal to the small stake. The player to the left of the small-blind player posts the big blind, which in a Fixed Limit game is equal to the small stake. In Pot Limit and No Limit games, the big blind is equal to the big stake. 16

At the showdown, all players still staying in the pot show their pocket cards and compare hands to determine the winner. The winner is determined according to Texas Holdem hand ranks. All players can use a combination of their two pocket cards and the community cards. Though a Texas Holdem hand is formed by five cards and in fact there are 7 cards (2 pocket cards + 5 community cards), a player can either use his two pocket cards plus any three community cards, or one of his pocket cards and four community cards, or just the community cards to form a winning hand. In case if two, or more players have the same winning hands, the pot is equally split among them. 4
